Hi, I'm Mike from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks!
In this video, we're going to show you how to replace the heater and air conditioner blower motor. This is a 2003 Mercury Mountaineer. This procedure is the same for 2002 to 2005 Mountaineer, Explorer, and Aviator. You're going to need a new blower motor from 1AAuto.com and an 8mm socket and ratchet and a flashlight will help you, too.
For removing your blow motor, you want to just come all the way back here and just remove this 8mm bolt. Once that's removed, just let this fall down and you want to remove this bolt, this bolt, this one, and the fourth one right back here. Before you do that, just pull on this tab and pull the harness free, and then we'll just fast forward as Mike removes those four bolts.
Twist the blower motor and pull it down and pull the harness out and around it. Then you want to just turn it so the part that sticks out in the back is coming out around the harness, and pull it down and out. Make sure you remove this gasket as well.
On the right is the old blower motor; on the left is the new one from 1A Auto. You can see they're identical, and they'll fit exactly the same.
Take your new blower motor, and you want to line up the gasket with these four holes. Once you get it lined up, just bead it up into place, just up and around those harnesses, and then twist it back, and those holes should be lined up. Just replace those bolts, and you want to just start them by hand and then tighten them with your socket and ratchet.
Whenever you're tightening bolts into plastic, be careful not to over tighten them. You don't want to strip the plastic out. Now replace this bolt, feed it back into place, and once you get it lined up, you can just tighten it up with your socket and ratchet. Then just reconnect your harness and you're all set.

The motor arrived promptly. The original motor was replaced due to the cage shearing out where the shaft engages it. The replacement had a diffferent design in this area that looks to be stronger.
