Brought to you by 1AAuto.com, your source for quality replacement parts and the best service on the Internet. Hi, I'm Mike Green. I'm one of the owners of 1AAuto. I want to help you save time and money preparing and maintaining your vehicle. I'm going to use my 20 plus years experience restoring and repairing cars and trucks like this to show you the correct way to install parts from 1AAuto.com. The right parts installed correctly, that's going to save you time and money. Thank you and enjoy the video.
In this video we're going to show you how to replace the exterior door handle on this 97 Expedition, same as any 97-02 Expedition or 97-03 F150. Tools you'll need are regular screwdriver, Phillips screwdriver and a ratchet or a driver with 6 millimeter, 8 millimeter and 10 millimeter sockets. We're actually going to speed through removing the door panel. We do have a video for door panel removal and replacement. Just check out our other videos, search for Expedition of F150 door panel, and once we get through this then we'll get to the door handle. The first thing you have to do is remove your door handle, and it's an 8 millimeter, or if you standard sockets, 5/16, and the bolt is right in here behind the door handle. Really the easiest way to do it is to remove this 8 millimeter bolt first. That bolt is right there. Pull it out. Then we use my socket and just use it to press the teeth here. Get that off, handle slides. Then the speaker is a 6 millimeter, also 7/32s works if you only have standard sockets.
Remove the four bolts on the speaker. Carefully pull the speaker out and then unhook it. You might need to use a screwdriver to disconnect the speaker wire. Just kind of pry out one tab with the screwdriver and then pull the connector. Now you want to carefully remove this water shield. You want to avoid ripping it. Once it's off you want to lay it somewhere flat to keep it safe. Then there's a rod going to door lock here. There's two ways, you can try and pry these teeth out of the way and get the rod out. I find the easier way is to pry this clip up here. See if I can reach in here, okay. Try not to drop it. These two bolts are 10 millimeter and you can see it's pretty easy to reach. There a wrench, a little socket wrench like this. Once those bolts are removed you're going to want to push from the inside and get the bottom of the door handle to come out. The best way to get the pin is to actually put the pin up into the top groove and then pull the bottom down and around and then push it in.
The last thing is to put this arm back on. It should point towards the inside of the handle. Push it on and then just use a little clip. Push it on with a screwdriver. Push there a little bit, push there a little bit, one more there, and it's on. Once you have your door handle together then you can just put it onto the rod and through and then just put it up in there into the right section. Once you have the door handle back in just use the nuts, and when you tighten them up you want them firm but not too tight. Then the last thing is to take this door lock rod and reconnect it. Now your handle is on and working, and now you can put the inside door panel back on and you're all set. Again here we're going to use the magic of fast motion just to go through replacing the water shield and the door panel. Again, if you want to see these in regular motion just check out our other videos.
