In this video we are going to show you how to replace the heater and AC blower motor on this 2001 PT Cruiser, same as most '01-'09 PT Cruisers. The only tool you'll need is a flat-blade screwdriver and a 7 mm socket and ratchet. To replace your heater blower motor, it's actually right up underneath. There is a pad here or cover and there is two pins, one right here and one over here, and what I do is I take my fingers and push the cover back, it's a little hard to do filming with one hand, but push the cover back and off of those pins and then pull the cover out.
To get those clips out, screwdriver and pry the middle and the clip out and then pull it right out. You can see the motor right here and first you want to disconnect the lead, there's a little locking tab and you pull the red locking tab out. I end up using the screwdriver to push that pin out and I kind of crisscross a little bit because this is a blower motor and there's really no need for a safety locking tab on it. Now this small tab you press with your thumb and disconnect the heart of the lead. OK, a little fast-forward here. There are four 7 mm bolts that hold the motor, which are pretty easy to see. Really the hardest part of this whole prepare is just twisting your body to get up in there, made more difficult for me during this because I was trying to make sure I was clear of the camera at the same time.
Here is our regional motor on the right and the new motor from 1A Auto. You can see it's all totally the same; the same shape, the same fan cage and everything. The only minor difference is the new one is made to fit some different applications, so you can see on here, it's two prong-oval connector and ours has a square and it comes with an adapter. You plug it in and you have your oval correct harness.
OK, installation, take note this has a little bit of an angle right here, corresponding the spot on the motor. You put it up into place and then we get into some super quick speed here as I hold it up in place and just thread in the four 7 mm bolts and then I use my socket and ratchet to tighten them up. When you tighten up, you want them snug, but you don't want to over tighten them though, because you could strip out the plastic and then they don't hold very well at all.
