Not a good replacement
This thing is junk! Had installed 6 months ago, got a flat the other day. Was able to lower spare. Now the cable is all bound up and cannot re hoist. Had to cut cable so wouldn't drag on pavement. Spare in back of car for time being until I find a QUALITY oem replacement. You get what you pay for, what a hassle this has become. Would not recommend. Buy something that will last more than one time.

Will the center piece get stuck up in the host because the original did?

no, the replacement hoist is an improvement on the original design and doesn't have that useless retaining clip that get corroded and stuck. Works perfectly, however be sure that you have selected the correct year model for your vehicle, as the designs changed over several years and are not all cross compatable.
