Whats that Rattle Under My Car

Created on: 2020-03-12

This video shows you how to search for rattling noises under your vehicle.

You hear that noise? That's what we're going to talk about in this video today.

So, we raised the vehicle up. We're looking at anything loose underneath the vehicle, just doing a couple taps on the exhaust. We hear something over here. It looks like this cage right here is loose. What happens is, these separate. These little things are rattling around. So, we're going to have to cut that off and re-secure this cage. This is just a cover to protect the flex from rocks or debris, or even sand and salt.

And over here...oh, that's what our noise is, right here. So, what that is, this is just the heat shield, and there's some bolts that are supposed to go right here, and it looks like they just rotted away, and they're gone. So, what I'm going to do here to secure this is just use some self-tapping screws, get that secured right there, and it should be good to go. No more rattle.

Ultimately, this flex pipe is not leaking. You could replace it. It's going to be pretty expensive. To get by for a little while, though, to get rid of the noise, what we're going to do is just cut this little ring off. This ring is what secures the cover right here, this wire mesh, onto the flex pipe. So, let's get this off, cut that and bend that, take that one there. And then, there's another one right here. Cut this one, as well, and slide that off.

In some instances, what you could do is just cut this wire mesh off. What we're going to do is put a couple of hose clamps on here and re-secure it. So, those are nice and secure, so that's good. That'll get you by for a little bit longer. Or, like I said, you could always just cut this wire mesh off. Now, the flex pipe itself is not leaking any exhaust fumes or anything, so that's still good for now.

I'm going to check the rest of the exhaust. One thing you want to check is any of the heat shields on the exhaust. This one is secure. Even though I'm hitting that and it's making a noise, it is still secure. Just check where it's welded to the exhaust, and that's good, and throughout the rest of the exhaust. A lot of times, those will rattle, and you can do something similar. Use some band clamps and re-secure them.

You hear that? Neither do I. It sounds awesome. So, we fixed our problem. We're good to go. Make sure you subscribe to our channel if you haven't already. Make sure you turn on all notifications by ringing that bell, so you don't miss any of our videos.
