The shop used a wall mounted compressor to do the job because the rental coil compressors couldnt go far enough because of the retracted shaft. Ive read some of the preassembled struts have springs that are too harsh but it would have reduced the time spent on the job considerably. Even with the $60 shop fee, I saved hundreds over having a dealer do the job. Id say the main thing is to have the right tools: torque wrench, metric Allen wrench, breaker bar/extensions, clean out the Allen sockets well and shoot all the bolts with penetrating oil first. Also plan on replacing the stabilizer bars while you have it apart, and torque everything back to specifications. And use proper jack stands of course.
