What are Tapered Bearings and Why Use Them? Tapered bearings use rollers shaped like flat-topped cones and two races angled from the outside in of the bearing. This angle makes the bearing better at handling forces exerted on the bearing during cornering (known as axial load) in trucks and large cars. Your model came from the factory with tapered bearings. Roller ball bearings work well for smaller cars, but replacing a tapered bearing with a roller ball bearing increases wear and failure.

I love this purchase, very happy with it. I got a quote from my mechanic that was astronomical when I knew I could do the job. Searched for this on 1A Auto and am still in disbelief. When I tell people the price I paid they drop their jaws. Very happy
I got in deep when I went in for a rotor job and they were seized to the hub. Had to get new bearings (don't ask) and these fit my factory hub just fine. I had a local shop press them in for a 12 pack of beer and had my sub rolling in no time. 205k hoping for 250!
