how hard is power steering pump change?

It is a moderate job to take on. The easiest way is to remove the power steering pump bracket assembly all in one, then remove the old pump from the bracket while you have it off the car. Then install new pump to bracket, then bracket to engine. The 3 bolts that hold the bracket can be tricky to get to. One in the back facing upwards, and 2 in the front, facing the front of the car. You also must remove the power steering lines. Find an instruction video on YouTube to walk you through the process. Not too difficult with the right tools.

This pump was an exact replacement

This pump fitted to a 2005 Outback perfectly. Exact replacement with nothing to modify or re-engineer. Just make sure you remove the cradle with pump attached and replace pump in cradle whilst off car. A bench vise is handy whilst doing the change over.
