The life of a shock can vary quite a bit depending on the vehicle, the environment they are in, and the roads they travel. On average, 50,000 miles is a good time to start visually inspecting them regularly. Pay attention to any leaks or rust; a little bit of either does not mean it is bad, but if the body of the shock is heavily covered in either its time for new ones.
