Hi. I'm Mike from 1A Auto. We've been selling auto parts for over 30 years.
What's up, guys? I'm Andy. Here is my personal 1983 Porsche 944. Today I'm going to show you how to reinstall a mirror. This mirror actually fell off the windshield. We're going to reattach it. If you need any parts for your vehicle, check out 1aauto.com.
Before we clean the inside of the windshield where the button used to beâ??you can see exactly where it wasâ??I'm going to take a crayon and just mark that location. That's where I want to put the new button when we go to install the mirror.
Next, we can take a razor blade or a scraper and we can scrape off on the inside of the glass. We want to take off any of this glue that was on there before. Peel that off. Make sure you clean it up really good. I'm just going to take a little bit of glass cleaner and a rag, and clean off the glass.
Next, on the back of the mirror, before I pull this little button off, I am going to use a razor blade because it's easier to hold the mirror while I scrape the button. I'm going to scrape all that glue off. That looks pretty good. I'll just take a little cleaner and a rag. Just wipe that off.
Next, I'm going to pull the button off. Before I do that, you want to keep in mind the direction that the mirror is going to go up on the windshield. So when I pull this off, I'm going to use a straight screwdriver, push it down a little bit, back and forth. This'll be similar on other models. It may not be exactly the same on different vehicles, but this is how it works on this 83 Porsche 944.
So we know that this is going to go to the windshield up. So what I'm going to do is I'm going to take a little piece of tape on the backside of the buttonâ??just like thatâ??and I'm going to mark an arrow going up so I know I can put it up to the windshield, just like that.
You're going to want to get a windshield mirror reattachment kit, and you're going to follow the instructions on the back. The way this one worksâ??we're going to use this. This is a cleaner that we're going to use first. We're going to pull this apart right hereâ??it's good to wear gloves while you're doing this. You can hold it on the backside hereâ??don't want to get this on your fingersâ??and we're going to wipe the button. This is going to clean the buttonâ??it's like a primerâ??just like that. And we're going to do the same on the windshield. We'll just clean that area right there where we're going to stick the button.
Next, after we let that primerâ??cleanerâ??sit for two minutes, we're going to use this adhesive. We're just going to put one little drop on the button, and then we're going to put it right to the windshield right away. And then we're going to hold it there for a minute. I use the tape to help hold it there. And then after that, we've got to wait 15 minutes for it to dry before we can hang our mirror back on.
Now we'll bring it over to the car. One little drop, hold it up to the thing, and then I'll just put a little pressure on it, hold it there for one minute.
Now that we've waited our 15 minutes, we can peel this tape off very carefully. I'm going to hold the button while I peel the tape. And then very gently, try to hold the button at the bottom so it doesn't move, and I'm going to slide the mirror on. There's a little tab right here that slides into the center of the button. Just slide it like that and wiggle it down just a little bit. And there we go.
Now that I've got that mirror on, I can take a little glass cleaner and clean off that mark we made with the crayon. This crayon was a little harder to get off than we thought, so I'll just use a little more glass cleaner, and just use a razor blade to scrape it off. Then I can wipe it with a towel.

Hi, I'm Mike from 1AAuto. We've been selling auto parts for over 30 years.
So if you had to remove your rear-view mirror, whether it was cracked or you are replacing the headliner and you had to get it out of your way, you can take a straight pick tool and slide it in the slot right here. You're going to aim it kind of towards the middle of the mirror a little bit and push and it'll slide right off.
So basically the pick tool goes in here and it pushes right on this lock right there. And that's what lets you release the mirror.
To reinstall the mirror, you can slide it up here and just lock it down in place.

If you need to remove your rear view mirror, there's a little tab right underneath here. You can grab it with your finger. With your other hand, just wiggle it back and forth and it will slide right up. That's the little lock tab, right there.
To reinstall, you're just going to line it up, and slide it down.
