In this video, I'm going to show you how to change a cabin air filter. This is a commonly overlooked item, in just about any vehicle. You'll see how overlooked it is in this vehicle. I'm going to do it in this 2004 XC90. The only tool you'll need is a T25 Torx driver, and either a screwdriver type driver or a socket and ratchet assembly like I have will work.

Okay, the dust and pollen, or cabin air filter, is right on the passenger side. Underneath the glove box, where this light is, there are two screws, they're T25. One is there and one is right there. We'll remove those.

Okay, then you want to take this cover and kind of reach in back behind. Pull down on the side and you can pull right down here. Then pull the cover up and out. Then, right under here, you'll see four more screws, they're T25 as well. There are one, two there. And then more difficult to get here are two more: one here and one here. If you have a T25 bit like mine, and a quarter-inch ratchet, they're not too difficult to get to. Again, I'm going to use my air ratchet because it's the easiest and quickest for the video.

Now this is always fun. Reach right in here, it's nice and black. Pull it down and take it out. Okay, and as is pretty typical, in the eight years and 100,000 miles of this vehicle's life, no one has even thought about this cabin filter.

Okay, so the filter goes up in. There's a little bit of an angle to the top here. Ours are a little different, so you do kind of have to get them to bend just a little bit like that. Get the top up in. Just kind of push it up in like that. You might have to reach in; there's a little divider. Slide it up in then put this cover back into place. Start one screw. I'm going to go in super high speed here. Put that panel back on. You want to start all four of the screws by hand at first. Then use your wrench, or in this case I use an air ratchet, and tighten them all up.

Now this goes in and the hook, your side over here, goes next to your console. Hook this side up and over there; in the back, it goes up and in. Then bow this whole thing and force it right up. Start in one screw. Then we'll finish fast here. You just start those two T25 screws that hold that panel in. Then tighten them up with your wrench.
