- Disconnect the negative battery cable with an 8mm wrench
- Disconnect the positive battery cable with an 8mm wrench
- Remove the 13mm battery mounting bolt
- Remove the battery mount
- Pull the battery up and out
- Pull the insulation off the battery

step 2 :Installing the Battery
- Slide the insulation onto the new battery
- Putt the battery on the tray
- Put the battery mount in place
- Tighten the 13mm battery mounting bolt
- Reconnect the positive battery cable
- Reconnect the negative battery cable

In this video, we're going to show you how to remove and reinstall a battery on this 2000 Chevy Cavalier, same as any 2000 to 2002, actually same for many years for the Cavalier as well as the Sunfire. The only tools you'll need are an 8mm wrench or an 8mm socket with a ratchet and you'll also need a 13mm socket with a ratchet and extension.
8mm bolts hold the battery cables on and a 13mm bolt holds the battery hold-down in place. Start with the negative or the black cable. Remove that 8mm bolt and remove the negative battery cable. Then remove the positive. We have a socket and ratchet that we're using for that. A wrench would work as well, but for this 13mm you're going to want a socket with an extension and a ratchet as you see there. Remove that 13mm bolt and remove the hold-down out of there. You want to remove the insulator from the old battery and install it onto your new battery.
Now, installation is just a reverse of the procedure. Make sure you pull the battery cables out of the way. Make sure you clean out the battery tray so there's no debris or anything like that. Put the hold-down back in place and use your 13mm socket, ratchet, and extension to tighten up the hold-down. Then, once that's tight, go back to your 8mm wrench and install and tighten the positive battery cable first, and then the negative battery cable. When you connect your negative battery cable, the car may make a little bit of a noise. It makes a little bit of a beeping noise on ours because of an aftermarket alarm. You may see some small sparks when you go to connect the negative battery cable, but there's nothing to worry about. It's normal.

Ticking Clicking Noise Coming From Your Engine Diagnosing Collapsed Lifters
Andy diagnoses a top end clicking ticking noise in our Chevy Avalanche! Andy locates the clicking noise to the top driver side of the 5.3L V8 engine, and discovers an intermittent misfire in cylinder 1. After removing the valve cover, he finds a very loose rocker, the source of our noise. He determines the rocker is loose because its lifter has collapsed, meaning it's not pushing up on the rocker when activated by the camshaft. The fault is in the AFM (active fuel management) lifter.
