All you'll need is a new hood support rod retainer from 1A Auto and no tools are necessary.
In this video, we're going to be showing you how to replace this prop rod retainer. It's kind of right here. You may wonder well a lot of times these get broken off from use. Sometimes in and out. A bunch of times, these can break if you leave your prop rod in the wrong spot and put your hood down. You can break it and other times somebody may be doing work, maybe you take out your battery and something accidentally hits it. They can break pretty easily. If you run into that problem, 1A Auto, we can remove your old one and buy a new part for 1A Auto, put it in place and it will fix you right up.

As you can see, the retainer is meant to fit into a square opening. On my 2002 Civic, the square opening on the body is at an angle so when the rod comes town the retainer is at an angle and won't receive the rod. Maybe I did something wrong, but I trimmed down the "squareness" of the clip so I could insert it at the proper angle to accept he rod.
