In this video, we're going to show you how to replace a hood support on this 2004 Ford Crown Victoria. We show you on the passenger side but the driver side is the same procedure. The items you'll need for this are new hood supports from 1AAuto.com, a pick, and someone or something to safely support the hood while you're doing this procedure.
To remove the hood support pistons, you just need to pry up these clips and pull the piston of these studs. Using a pick, just pry up that clip, make sure your hood's supported up, and pry out that clip, and just pull that part of the piston off the stud. Now do the same thing at the top. Pry out the pick and pull the piston free.
In the back is the old hood support piston. Up front is the new one from 1A Auto. You can see they're identical and they'll mount exactly the same. The hood support piston just snaps right back on. Make sure the clips are in place and push it on. Then replace the other side and you're all set.

I received the replacement hood supports in just a few days. I installed them in less than 10 minutes. I have no idea how much this repair would cost at the dealer. But I would assume they would charge at least twice as much for the parts & then add a minimum of one hour service time. So I'm assuming that it would cost at least $200 at the dealer, for what I accomplished for approximately $50. Plus it was far more convenient for me to order online and perform the work in my driveway. So I got the repair accomplished and never had to leave home. That saved me time and frustration, (I did not have to wait at dealership or drive there to get the work done. LIFE IS GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!
