In this video, we're going to be working on a 2001 Ford Ranger. We're going to show you how to remove and reinstall the turn signal and wiper switch lever, also known as the headlight dimmer switch, or the multi-function switch.
This information is the same on Rangers from 1999 to 2003, and is similar to several other Ford vehicles. If you like this information, please click subscribe. Here are the items you'll need for this repair: Phillips screwdriver, T20 Torx driver, and a flat blade screwdriver.
Now you'll have to remove these three Phillips head screws on the column. Tilt the column down, and work off the top half of the clam shell. Place the top half out of the way. Unscrew the tilt column level, and remove the lower half of the clam shell.
Remove the 2 T20 Torx screws holding the headlight dimmer switch onto the steering column. We're going to use a T20 Torx screwdriver. You could also use a T20 Torx bit and a ratchet. With the switch out, use a small flat blade screwdriver to pry up on the retainers for the electrical connector, and remove it, as well as the two on the connector at the bottom.
Reconnect your electrical connectors. Reinstall the switch onto the column. Line up and reinstall your two T20 Torx screws.
Reinstall the upper portion of the clam shell, and the lower. These do have little plastic hooks on them, so snap them together. Reinstall your Phillips head screws. You should have three. Again, our truck is missing one. Screw the tilt column lever back into place.

It works great and was a perfect fit.
I bought another turn signal lever from another online parts company, installed it and all of a sudden my wipers start to come on by themselves intermittently. I literally checked everything that could have possibly been the problem. No way it was the new signal lever I just installed. I finally talked with a mechanic about it and he said to check the signal lever, are you kidding me ? So I decided to check my invoice on the lever and found out that there was no brand associated with the lever. I decided to buy another one from 1AAuto after noticing that theirs was a Dorman brand, a name I trust. I just installed it and no more unexpected wiper movement !! This was one of several times that this other company gave me faulty parts and 1AAuto has yet to do that. I will be ordering from 1AAuto exclusively from now on. Thanks !!
Great direct replacement, just make sure you take the old one out and see the pin orientation first because there are two different models available for this vehicle. So far very happy.

Hello Noe. This switch will NOT fit your 2004 Sport Trac, but I found that part number 1AZTS00220 is correct for your vehicle! Let us know if you have any other questions or concerns and have a great day.
Not sure how to test. But my old switch would turn on the wipers even when the wipers should be off. This new switch resolved that issue.
