In this video, we're going to show you how to replace a rear door lock actuator on this 2003 Mercury Mountaineer. It's the same part and similar process on these Mountaineers from 2002 to 2010 and it's the same years on the Ford Explorer. We show you on the driver side but the passenger side is a similar procedure. The items you'll need for this is a new rear door lock actuator from 1AAuto.com, a flat blade screwdriver, a 6mm and 7mm socket and ratchet and a T27 Torx bit.
Start off by prying out on the bottom of this panel and then pulling out to release the clips. Then slide it towards the front of the car and off the door handle. Now roll this panel out while pulling up on the front. Slide it forward and then just push the tab on this harness and disconnect it. Then remove this 7mm bolt and this 7mm bolt right here. Now lift your door panel up and out and your door panel's free. Peel back your water shield in this top corner and you can see Mike uses a razor blade to help separate the adhesive.
Now, using a flat blade screwdriver, just pry this clip open and then pull the door handle rod free. To give you more room while you're trying to remove the exterior door handle, we recommend you just lift up this yellow clip on the back of the interior door handle and pull your lock rod free. Remove the 6mm bolt underneath your interior door handle. Slide the door handle forward and just push this cable out and disconnect the cable. Then just pull the cable through your water shield.
Using a flat blade screwdriver, push in the tabs on this clip and pull the cable from the door. Then remove these three T27 bolts. We'll just fast-forward as Mike does that. Pull the door lock actuator towards the opening and then just lift up on this yellow clip and pull the rod free. Push the tabs on these harnesses to disconnect them.
With your assembly out, the actuator just slides on here, so take your screwdriver and just pry a little bit to make sure it's moving some. There's actually a tab right in, put your screwdriver in and twist. While you're twisting, work the actuator off. Actually if you lock this back up, it gives you a little extra room and the actuator comes right off.
There's a tab here and a tab here on the actuator, so they go into this slot and into this slot. Then there's an arm here. You have to make sure that goes into here, so put it into place and start sliding it on. Then make sure that your actuator goes into where it should here. Let's see here, I don't have it down quite far enough to push it down on there. Make sure that arm's going in and squeeze it on and slide it on.
Make sure that's open and I'm going to reconnect my harnesses here. The grey one goes here and this one goes right here. Put this in the door and then take my door handle rod or my lock rod actually, oops, I got to put it into the door and lock it in place. Bring your assembly up, take, carefully, outside door handle rod, and make sure it doesn't get caught up in there. Let's see. There we go. We'll fast-forward as Mike finishes replacing those bolts and then tightens them up.
Pull the cable back through your water shield. Then take your interior door handle and reclip the cable into the handle. Then just push that cable back into the bracket and then push in the tabs on the door handle and then slide the door handle back. We'll just fast-forward as Mike replaces that 6mm bolt and tightens it up.
All right so you want to make sure that your door is in the unlocked position. Back is locked. This way is unlocked. Then you want to hold your lock and unlock switch. Basically, here because that's unlocked, that's locked so hold it in the unlocked position. Pull it forward, make sure it's unlocked, put into your clip, and you can see and just lock the clip down. Reclip the door handle rod and just close the yellow clip over it.
Now push your water shield back into place. The door handle is held in by all these hooks, so if you take the water shield for any reason just make sure that everything is lined up so the hooks can go in easily. You can actually hook the bottom ones on first, just push the panel up, you may have to move it up a little bit, make sure it goes against the door all the way, and slide it down. Now replace those two 7mm bolts and tighten them up. The top one helps if you feed it back into place with an extension. Reconnect the harness and this tab slides in first. Take this panel and just slide it behind your door handle. Push those tabs back into place. Push the clips back in on the front.

In this video, we are going to show you how to replace the rear door lock actuator on this 2005 Ford F150. It's the same parts and process on this F150s from 2004 to 2008. We show you on the driver side, but the passenger side is the same procedure. The items that you'll need for this include a new rear door lock actuator from 1AAuto.com, a 6mm, 8mm and 10mm socket & ratchet with an extension, flat blade screwdriver, T25 Torx bit, and a 5.5mm socket or 7/32" socket.
Pry out on the small panel behind the door handle. Then pry up on this panel, and just pull it forward. Lift it up and push the tab on the harness and disconnect it. Then pull out on this panel and pull it free. It helps to use the flat blade screwdriver and just pry it free. Remove the 6mm bolt, these two 8mm bolts, this 10mm bolt, and then these two 6mm bolts down here. We'll fast-forward as Mike does that. Now lift the door panel up and pull it out. Then you want to pull out your door handle cable. It's easiest with a flat blade screwdriver to pry it out. Then unclip it from the door handle, and your door handle's free. Then remove these 5.5mm or 7/32 bolts from your speaker. You may notice that we switched doors. We're just going to show you the procedure on this door that actually has a water shield. Pull your speaker out, and then just push the tab on the harness and disconnect it. Then just peel back your water shield. Then you want to do this slowly so as not to rip your water shield or stretch it too much.
Now remove this 10mm bolt and just pull that bracket out. Now reach back here, and with a flat blade screwdriver you want to just pry the screen clip open and pull the rod out. Now remove these three T25 Torx screws, and we'll just fast-forward as Mike does that. Now you want to just pull these clips out, just push the tabs on the back and pull them free. You just reach in and try to squeeze the tabs together on the backside and pull. Now just work your door lock actuator assembly down and out. It does take some maneuvering to get it to come out but just keep working at it and will come. Push in on the tabs on this harnesses and disconnect them.
Now, using a flat blade screwdriver, just pry down on the tab underneath the door lock actuator and slide the actuator off those rails.
On the bottom is the old door lock actuator; above it is the new one from 1AAuto. You can see they are identical and they'll fit exactly the same. This part locks in, so you may just want to kind a flex it out a little bit, slide it down into place, make sure that your arm is going in there and lock it in.
Reconnect the harnesses. Make sure they are connected all the way, and then feed the door latch assembly back into the door. Make sure you push the lock rod up through the door and to help hold the latch assembly into place. You just clip on the child lock into the door and replace one of those T25 screws just preliminary right now to hold it in place. Make sure you push those yellow clips on the cable back in. Replace and tighten up those three T25 screws. Now just put the door handle rod back into that green clip and re-clip it. Then take this bracket, put it back into place, and replace and tighten up that 10mm bolt.
Now replace your water shield. Reconnect your speaker. Push it back into place and then replace those four 5.5mm bolts and tighten them up. To replace your door panel, just re-clip the door handle cable into the door handle and then push it back into place. Make sure these clips stay into the door. Then line up the tabs on the back and make sure that the lock rod goes up through the door panel and that your harness for your window switch is coming up through that hole in the door panel. Then push the door panel down into place. We'll fast-forward as Mike replaces all of those bolts. Now replace the small panel behind the door handle, reconnect your window switch, push those tabs into place, and push the panel back down. Then line this panel up, slide it down into the door panel, and push those two clips back into place. You're all set.

In this video, we're going to show you how to replace a door lock actuator on this 2003 Mercury Mountaineer, and we show you on the driver side, but the passenger side is the same procedure, and it's the same part and similar process on these Mountaineers from 2002 to 2010 and for the same years on the Ford Explorers. The items you'll need for this are a new door lock actuator from 1AAuto.com; flat blade screwdriver; a 6, 7, and 11 mm socket and ratchet with an extension; and a T27 Torx bit.
You want to make sure that your courtesy lights don't stay on so you don't drain your battery. Just make sure you turn those off. Pry out from the bottom of this panel with a flat blade screwdriver. Then just slide the panel towards the front of the vehicle and off the door handle. Then lift up on the front of your switch panel and then slide it forward and up. Then push the tabs on these harnesses and disconnect them. For this last one, you're going to want to use a flat blade screwdriver and push in on the tab and pull it free. Your switch panel is free. Now you want to remove this 7mm bolt and these two 7mm bolts right here. We'll just fast-forward as Mike does that. Pry out the switch and then just pry out the tab on the harness and disconnect the harness. Then feed that back through the door panel. Lift the door panel up and then pull it back. Push the tab on this harness to disconnect it, and your door panel is free.
Remove this 6mm bolt and slide the door handle forward. Pull it out and just push this cable free. Then, using a pick, unclip the lock rod. Once you've opened up the clip, use the pick to lift the rod up and out of the clip. Now unclip the cable from inside the door handle, and your door handle is free. Peel back your water shield. You can see Mike is using a razor blade to help separate the adhesive.
Pull this cable from these clips, and then, using a pick, open up this yellow clip right here and then pull the door handle rod free. Remove this 11mm bolt right here, and we'll just fast-forward as Mike does that. Remove these five T27 Torx bolts, and the two farthest from the latch actually hold in this brace. You want to make sure you remove those first, pull the brace out, and then remove the three closest to the latch. Lift your door lock actuator up until you see this yellow clip and push it off this rod. Pull that rod free, and then, pull the latch and actuator assembly from the door, and just disconnect these two harnesses right here. To do that, you just push the tab and pull the harnesses free.
Now, to remove the actuator, you just want to pry out on these tabs on the side, and then stick the flat blade screwdriver underneath the center of the actuator and twist it to release the clip under there, and then just slide the actuator off those rails.
You've got this tab here and this tab here. They go into these slots, respectively, and then you just have to make sure this goes into the activating arm, so line it up. Push it down make sure that's going into the arm, and then push it on the rest of the way.
Next, put your lock back up in place. Replace and tighten up that 11mm nut. Reconnect those harnesses to your actuator, then push that rod back into the yellow clip, and re-clip it. Then, feed the actuator back down into the door. Re-clip this lock rod back into the lock bezel, and then, line up the latch and replace those three T27 bolts. We'll fast-forward as Mike replaces those and tightens them up. Put this rod back into place, and then, replace those two T27 bolts. Push the handle rod back into this yellow clip and close the clip. Then re-clip the cable back into these clips. Make sure if you disconnected this harness that you push it back into place. Once everything is clipped, push the cable back through the water shield and push your water shield back into place.
Take your new door handle, clip the cable back inside the handle, and then re-clip it to the lock rod. The easiest way to do this is just open that clip up, pull the lock rod in with the pick, and just set it into the clip. Once you have it in place, push it down into the clip with your finger and then close the clip back up. Push that cable in and then push your door handle and slide it back. Then, replace that 6mm bolt and tighten it up.
To replace your door panel, just reconnect this harness, and make sure you push the harness for your mirror switch through. Then push the door panel into place and slide it down. We'll fast-forward as Mike replaces those three 7mm bolts and tightens them up. Reconnect this switch and push it back into place. Then reconnect your switch panel and slide the back end first. Then push the front end down. Then slide this panel back over the door handle and push those tabs back into place. Then push in the front. You're all set.

In this video, we're going to show you how to replace the door lock actuator on this 2005 Ford F-150. We show you on the driver side, but the passenger side is a similar procedure. The items you'll need for this include a new door lock actuator from 1AAuto.com, a 6mm, 8mm, and 10mm socket and ratchet, flat blade screwdriver, 5.5mm or 7/32 socket, a pair of pliers, and a T27 Torx bit or driver.
Start off by prying off this panel. You want to start at the bottom, work your way up to the top, and then pull it free. Then pry out this small panel behind the door handle, and then pry up on your switch pad. Pull it forward and push the tabs on each of the harnesses and disconnect them. Now, you want to remove these two 8mm bolts, this 10mm bolt, these 5.5mm or 7/32" bolts, and then these two 6mm bolts down here. We'll fast-forward as Mike removes all of those. Now pull your speaker out, and then push the tab on the harness and disconnect it. Remove this small panel, and then, using a pair of pliers, pull out the lower two of these plugs. Slide your door panel up and off. Then pry out your door handle cable and unclip it. Your door panel is free. Carefully peel back your water shield, and it can help to use a razor to help separate that adhesive.
Remove this 10mm bolt right here. Then pull that bracket aside and just push the tab on the harness and disconnect it. Set that aside. Using a flat blade screwdriver, pry open this green clip inside the door and pull the rod free. Then pry out this harness, and, up here, you want to just pry out this little clip that holds the harness in. Pry off this clip right here over the wires that go to your keyless entry pad. You can see there's a towel underneath. That way it will catch it.
Your keyless entry pad is held on with two tabs on the bottom and two up top. Just pry out the bottom tab and the top tab, and then pry out the big tab on the side while applying pressure. Then you want to do the same thing on the other side of the keyless entry pad, and it will pop free. You can just pull that out and set that aside.
Now, using a flat blade screwdriver, pry out these two caps. You just want to pry in, push down, and then pry out. Then remove these two 10mm bolts and the 10mm nut right here, and then the 10mm nut up above it right there. We'll just fast-forward as Mike removes those. Move the door handle up and down while pulling out, and it will pull free. Then you can just open the handle a little bit to release that top part. Pull out this clip and push the lock cylinder out. Your door handle is free. Remove the lock cylinder from that lock rod by pulling it down.
Disconnect this yellow clip by pushing the tabs on the back and pulling it free. Then remove these three T27 Torx bolts. Pull out your latch assembly, and then just push the tab on the black harness and disconnect it. Then the gray harness and disconnect that. Remove the latch assembly from the door. Pull the lock out of that square hole, the lock rod, and then the lock rod feeds up through the outer door handle and the latch mechanism comes out.
Now, using a flat blade screwdriver, just pry down on the tab underneath the door lock actuator and slide the actuator off those rails.
On the bottom is the old door lock actuator; above it is the new one from 1A Auto. You can see they're identical and they fit exactly the same.
Take your new door lock actuator and just pry open that tab a little bit so it'll slide into place easier. Slide it onto those rails all the way down until it clicks on.
You want your actuator set up with the outer door lock hooked on like that. What you'll want to do is hold this wire up, feed the inside door lock up out through the door handle hole. I'm holding up again on the outer door lock, and I'm going to grab hold right here. I'm now going to let my actuator go down. I've got my inside door lock up through here. This is out of the way, and I'm going to reach in and make sure that this harness comes over the actuator. Then I can let the actuator go back into place and line it up.
Feed the latch into place, start your three T27 bolts, and tighten them up. Reattach these harnesses; the gray one is right here, the black one is a little further in. Also, reattach this cable. Make sure this rod goes right down in there. Make sure your buttons are in the right spot. I'm reaching in with my left hand and I'm feeling to make sure that the buttons are going in evenly. Just push them into place. Quick check to make sure they're in place. Now, we can tighten up the nuts and put in these bolts.
Now replace this clip, push this harness back into place, and then put the rod back into that clip and close it. Then take that hook and push it back into place on the lock cylinder. Reconnect the harness to this bracket, line the bracket up, and replace that 10mm bolt and tighten it up.
Replace your water shield. To reconnect your door panel, just line up these lower hooks into those slots, feed your harnesses through the door, make sure that one is ready for the speaker, then re-clip your door handle cable, and then push it back into that bracket. You want to make sure you push it in all the way. Then push your door panel back into place, lining up all of those slots. You want to make sure that the lock rod is going up through this hole. Then slide the door panel down. Replace those two lower plugs. Put that small panel back into place. Reconnect your speaker and push that back into place. Then replace those two 8mm screws, the four 5.5mm or 7/32", the 10mm, and the two 6mm. Reconnect your harnesses to your switch pack. Then line up the tabs on the back and push the front down. Then line up the tabs on this panel and push it into place. Take the small panel behind the door handle and just push it back in.

We're going to remove this trim panel first with plastic trim tools from 1aauto.com, which is the best way to do it without harming your interior finish. Pull out on this panel. Once you get it out, it kind of comes off this way. Same thing here with your switch panel. Then disconnect the switches: Green tab here. Then this blue tab here. This one came right out. Just a little tab on the side. Disconnect it. Now you want to get this off. It should pull out. There are six seven-millimeter bolts: one, two, three, four, and then down on the bottom five and six. We'll remove those. Again, using your plastic trim tool, get in underneath of the mirror switch. The clips are on the side. Just get it under there. Twist, and it pulls up and out. You kind of have to rotate it up like that and out, and press the tab and disconnect. Make sure you have all your bolts out, and the whole panel comes out and off.
Pull your handles to pull the cable out, then grab hold of this little ball here to hold the cable out. Then pull the cable from the door lock and use a screwdriver or something to help you release the tabs here. You'll need to raise your window up and disconnect the switch again. And pull your shield back far enough to reveal this 6mm bolt and remove it. It allows you to slide this forward and pull. Actually, that'll be good enough right there. Use a pick or a flat-head screwdriver, release this yellow clip right out, and then pull the lock or the latch rod out. And then you'll need to remove this 11mm nut that holds the back of the door lock. And now pull the door lock out, and you can twist it off of its rod. Two 8 mm bolts hold the bottom window track in place. We're going to remove those. And reach in and take the track out.
Three T27 bolts hold the lock mechanism in place, so we'll remove those. Unlatch your lock rod, and as you're pulling the last one out, your mechanism can go down. Just a kind of question of getting the right angle, bringing it out. The leads are down at the bottom, the little tab here. And once you pull that down, come down here, take this clip out and disconnect this lead here as you push down on the tab. Disconnect and pull. Just kind of have to get the mechanism to cooperate with you. Pull it out. Disconnect your two leads: one there, that one there. And then there's just a little tab right in here. Put screwdriver down and twist it a little bit and pull your actuator up and off.
Here’s the original actuator from our 2006 Explorer, new one from 1AAuto. You can see they're exactly the same, and they have the same connection point. The new one from 1AAuto's going to go in, bolt in and function just like the original. Installation for the lock mechanism is just as easy to put it in place.
Slide it down on, and make sure it's secure. Reinstall the harness, the black connector goes to the sensor on the lock mechanism, and the gray connector goes to the lock actuator. And make sure your lock actuator rod's in, your lock rod's in, and the harnesses are at the bottom. Feed your cable kind of through the door panel and feed it down in. Make sure you feed your lock up through here. Make sure your lock rod stays upright. And bringing it up into place and start your three screws in. Before you tighten it up, just make sure you don't have any harnesses pinched in. You can move this harness out, reconnect it, and put it back in place. Make sure your harnesses are free, your lock rod is free, and this is free. And then you can tighten these up.
The track goes back in, this flared end's on the top, feed it down in place, and then you can see, then move it around and line up the clips. Start in your 8 mm bolts and tighten them up. Your lock's under back in place. Start the 11mm nut on. Make sure it goes into the door handle properly and tighten that up. Put your lock rod back in place, and make sure it goes up. Unlocks and locks. Unlock it and then put it into the clip. Make sure it locks and it's secure. And then open up this clip. Push up a little bit on the latch rod, put it in, and lock the clip in place. Put this block back in place. Make sure that your door lock cable is clipped in to the back side and top on, back latch and the bottom latch. Okay. Lock this back in place. Make sure all your harnesses kind of go in there, and put your 6 mm bolt back in place. And then you can put your water shield back up.
The door panel has a series of hooks that go into slots in the door, so you can kind of put into place. Make sure your harnesses go through. Put the cable into the door and pull it. Push it through. Make sure your harnesses come up through. Put your door lock button in. Line up all those hooks. Just going to make sure our door lock button goes into the hole. The hooks should all line up and allow the panel to be flush with the door. Make sure your mirror harness comes through as well. Both the front and the back are flush. Push it down into place, and then we can reinstall our six seven-millimeter bolts to hold it in place. For these two that go in at the door handle, we just put some grease on there. That's actually going to make it so they stay in our socket. Feed into place, and start them in. Just clean the grease off the socket and start the other ones in. These bottom ones, tighten them. Don't get them too tight because you'll end up stripping the plastic nuts they go into. Reconnect the green and blue harness leads. The small black one. Make sure you put it in there correctly. Push it down and lock it into place. This one kind of hooks on the top first, snaps in place. Then this one snaps right in place. Install the mirror switch. Reconnect it down in and make sure you clock it correctly. When it's in the middle position that should be straight up, and push it in.

Perfect fit, arrived on time an even though was not an easy replacement due to the fact that I am a "shade tree mechanic", the replacement video on your website was an outstanding help. The steps were easy to follow, and I followed them step by step and fulfill the replacement with flying colors.
Came quickly and right part and affordable
The Good: Part was "exact OEM" replacement. The new actuator worked like a charm and is very strong when latching and unlatching the lock. The Bad: Not just 1AAuto, but I knocked off a star because now my door lock and handle will not unlatch the new slide on the actuator without using the electric lock. This is a danger to the driver but so is driving a 2004 Explorer. Triple-checked my work but no dice - the new actuator is the issue. This issue is an aftermarket problem with all parts and this is why I try to avoid them when possible.
Arrived on time. Direct replacement and easy to install. Video helped. Fixed my driver door unlocking problem with FOB and keypad.
It works good once I received it for some unknown reason it was delivered next door and wasnt able to get it for a few days but once I got it installed it and working fine now I dont have to reach out to the back door and lock/unlock manually good price too
