What's up guys? I'm Andy from 1A Auto. In this video I'm going to show you how to replace the mode door actuator on this 2012 Ford Escape. You might have a situation where your vehicle is stuck in defrost mode or stuck in floor mode or even stuck on the heater mode. This could be your problem, I'll show you how to do it. If you need parts for your vehicle, click the link in the description and head over to 1aauto.com.
Okay, I'm going to disconnect this connector right here, just pull down on this little red tab and slide it out. And we'll disconnect the connector just like that. I need to take this bolt out right here, just use a 8 millimeter socket and ratchet and then there's one more bolt up here, kind of hard to see. Use the same ratchet, 8 millimeter socket. Pull that bolt out. Just grab the actuator and slide it out.
All right, so I'm back underneath here. I have to slide this into position. So you might have to twist this a little bit. All right, that's good. So if the cam was in a different position, you may even have to get a little screwdriver or something and turn the gears and stuff behind it, the little key there. All right, so I was able to get that in and then we'll take the bolts, get the bolts started. Get that one started and then get this other one started further up. It's kind of hard to see. And I'll take my 8 millimeter socket and ratchet and tighten these down. Just snug, not too tight, it is plastic.
Now that those bolts are secured, and the actuators in there. You want to make sure you never plug this in while the actuator is out, you could break the actuator, at least in some cases. So once that's hooked up, we can plug it in. Lock the lock. All right, so now I'm just going to turn the key on while we're looking at the actuator. I'm going to change the mode and we can watch it move. And it's working properly which is good.

I ordered the Temperature Blend Door Actuator Pair, only needed one but the price was reasonable so I went ahead and ordered both just in case I need the other one in the future. The website was easy to use, and also accepted PayPal which was convenient! The part even came in sooner than it was supposed to and works perfectly!

Customer Q&A
Where is this part located ?April 6, 2018

It depends on whether or not you have three dual zone climate control. If you do not, it will be on top of the air box behind the radio center panel. If you do have the dual zone, then the passenger side is on top behind the radio but the drivers side is under the air box wedged between it and the floor. I had to replace the drivers side on my 2011 F150 and it was no picnic

Part is located just to the right of the radio unit, passenger side. Radio needs to be removed, pretty easy, and glove box needs to be emptied and flopped down. You need to have two ways of getting hands in. Check the web for videos, some good ones there. Hope this helps.

There are up to two. The drivers blend door is located in the center of the dash, behind the radio unit. There are a good number of YouTube videos to help you replace the actuators. Depending on your model of truck, you will require one or two.

Up under the dash. Look on YouTube, there's a channel for FordTechMakeULoco, or something like that. He walks you through how to replace the blenders.

I have already replaced the blower motor & the resistor in my 2013 Ford F-150 but it still doesn't get as cold as it used to. It seems like all I'm cooling is the outside air. Is the door actuator that is stuck in open position? Do you have a do-it-yJune 11, 2021

I understand changing the LH door actuator on a 2010 F150 Platinum with electronic dual zone climate control is a booger- bear. Is there any design difference between the LH and RH actuators? Are they interchangeable?November 7, 2023

My 2010 king ranch is different, the left hand was the one that wasnt the same

I didn't notice if it was designed to fit specifically, both seemed to be interchangeable but I'm still having issue controlling the driver side (located at the bottom of the passenger side). Sorry, I couldn't really answer your question.

They are definitely not the same part. I'm replacing the LH side and I can get to it without too much trouble. My understanding is the RH side is behind the airbag/radio which is tougher to get too.

These are meant for two different sides and are not interchangeable.
