Hey, I'm Brian, I'm here to give you guys a little tutorial on some window regulators. The specific design is the scissor design. We actually get a lot of calls on these products here and the common question is: The part I received seems different than the part in my vehicle.
The scissor design actually has a flip design and we're actually going to show you how to fix this here. The most common thing that you want to do, or the first step you want to do is lay the parts out side by side. Try not to match them up in the car because this can get confusing. Take it out, lay them side by side, and what you actually see here is a same exact part for the same model vehicle in the same door. As the appearance shows here, they seem to be mirrored.
If you look down at the bottom here, we have the power window motor. This is the piece that is actually powered to lift and lower your glass. The next section down here is . you actually have your gear drive. Here's your mounting plates on both. As you can see, it's identical. You have your tension spring here. If you notice on the upper section here, it's kind of reversed. You're going to think normally, I get the wrong side door. You're going to give us a call and you want to express that to one of our customer service reps. I'm going to show you how to fix this.
Basically, pick this up by the base and you want to scissor or flip. This is how you're going to fix the issue. It's going to actually match the component as shown there. You can now see that both of these components here are the same part and you're ready for installation.

OK, this is part one of two. Window regulator on this '97 Ford Expedition, same as any '97-02 and '97-03 F-150. We're going to show you how to remove it. Tools you're going to need; a regular screwdriver, a Philips screwdriver, 11 mm socket and driver, a hammer, a punch and a drill with a -inch drill bit.
Start out here, we're going to fast-forward through taking the door panel off. If you want to see this in regular motion, just check out our other videos. Search for Expedition or F-150 door panel, or you can probably pick up enough. It's just a matter of removing a few panels and a few screws and then pulling up and off. Generally, it's the same for all doors, front and rear with the exception of obviously the extended cab trucks. ... took the panel off. You can see I have my window rolled down slightly. What that allows is remove two nuts. This one here and that one right in there.
Now, on this truck, there's nothing wrong with the regulator or the motor, so I can move the window around. Really that'll probably be your greatest challenge. If you have a stuck window regulator or motor, you'll have to reach in and get those nuts off wherever they may be. They may be it's stuck all the way down, you're going to have to reach down. There's quite a bit of room in the door and with these holes, so it shouldn't be too much of a problem. What I'm going to do is I'm going to remove those two nuts. They're 11 mm. Once you have those nuts off, I'm reaching into the middle of my window, lifting up on the window a little bit, and I'm just pulling the window regulator track away from the window. Lift up on the window, and I'll secure that with some tape. That holds the window up. Now, my regulator's separate from the window.
You can see I used a little bit of painter's tape just to secure the window up, so it doesn't fall down while I'm working. Just to get it out of the way, I'm going to pull this harness off the door. Whoops. Now, what I'm going to have to do is I'm going to remove these two bolts here, which are 11 mm. OK, now these rivets are actually pretty easy. This is where you want to make sure you have your window taped up well. You want to take the punch, and you want to put it right in the center of the rivet. You want to knock the little pin right through. I'm going to do that on all six rivets.
Now, I'm going to take a nice big -inch drill bit. I'm going to drill right into. Now, these are pretty soft metal rivets. You want to be careful not to drill too far and drilling through the door. Then, once you've gone a certain distance, can probably just take a screwdriver and clean off the rest of them. I'll do that for the other one. Once you have all those rivets drilled out. Again, it's a matter of separating them from the door. Can always resort to your punch again. Now, your regulator is free. Here is your harness's connector right here. See, this connects that, feed it through, bring the regulator out through there.
That ends this video for now. If you want to see the installation, please check out our other videos for the F-150 Expedition window regulator install. We hope this helps you out. Hi I am Mike Green. I am one of the owners of 1A Auto. I want to help you save time and money repairing or maintaining your vehicle. I am going to use my 20 plus years experience restoring and repairing cars and trucks like this, to show you the correct way to install parts from 1AAuto.com. The right parts installed correctly; that's going to save you time and money. Thank you and enjoy the video.
This is kind of part two of the installation of the regulator using bolts on the 1997 Expedition, same as any 97-02 Expedition and 97-03 F150. Tools are pretty much the same as what you used to get it out. Obviously you don't need the drill anymore. You'll need whatever wrench and socket for the bolts you might use to secure the regulator.
The regulators we sell at 1A Auto are exactly the same as the original. Obviously these were riveted in to begin with. You can see why actually here's one of the mounting holes. You can see this bracket or this gear is going to go right over it. It's a clearance issue. When you remount it you want to put the bolt in from this side. Here and when you can get to it which you'll have to probably run the regulator all the way down here. What I'm going to do is I'm going to feed my regulator in and here are my six mounting spots. I'm going to lift it up, I'm going to put a bolt through this middle one, and then through the door here and put a lock nut on it. That's holding everything in place.
As you are bolting in this just make sure you bring your door handle rod up above it. Then feed it in place and put on the bolts. Now what I am going to do is get my regulator in position here. These ones here I don't have to worry too much about clearance. I'll put a bolt in there and nut on the backside. This one here again I don't have to worry about clearance so I'll put a bolt through and a nut on the backside. These two up here I don't have to worry so much about clearance but they are a little difficult to get to. What I'm going to do is I'm going to take, got my nut in behind and my wrench and I'm going to feed it through. I can now see it right in that hole. I can put my bolt into it.
Now what I'm going to do is I'm just going to kind of snug all these ones up that I have in, since they are pretty easy to get to. Like I said, I'm not going to tighten them; I'm just going to snug them up. Now really if you were to stop here and just tighten these four up everything would work just fine. You might get a little rattling out of here, but I am going to put in the last two bolts. Now I've adjust my switch back up and I have my window motor back in. Just going to turn the key on and run the window down. Key off. Now with it all the way down I can reach right in here and put that bolt through, put a nut on this side. Now I'll put that on and tighten it up.
Now I just have my last one. I took my nut, I put a little bit of an adhesive on it. I'm going to put it in my wrench like that. Let it dry for a second. I'm going to reach in behind here carefully underneath. There's my nut. The other thing you could do is you could probably try and glue the nut on to the window regulator before you even put it in. doesn't always work though. It usually falls off. Now we can tighten all of this up. I'm going to turn the key on, run the regulator up so the holes for the window are right there and then bring the window down.
Now I've brought my window down, I've got my studs in, and I'm putting back on my 11mm nuts and tighten them up. Take the tape off my window. Now you can see right here we had six rivets. You've got two bolts going in that way and the middle two bolts are coming out this way for clearance purposes and these two bolts in here with nuts on the back of all of them. Now we'll do a test. Just kind of hold that out of the way a little bit. Looks pretty good. In the interest of time we're just going to speed through putting the door panel back on. You can probably pick up enough to get it back on. Obviously if you took it off, you're just putting it on the opposite way of how you took it off. We do hope this helps you out.

Works great
The regulator fit my 1998 expedition just fine. Easy to install.
Awsome product works great. Fast shipping
The slide on one side was clamped in on the end where the metal was crimped to stop the slide. I had to open it up to free the slide and bend it back. Took alot of time to fix.
Have not received it yet contacted A1 auto they told me it is shipping issue was supposed to be shipped UPS they say it is USPS problem either way you got your money and I got nothing thanks
Although one of the arms was damaged in shipment, I thought the motor would be a direct replacement; Motor is not a direct replacement So I was able to repair the arm and install. Works well, good and strong. install video was exactly my model so that was nice!
It was the perfect part and I was able to complete the job with no issues. I was satisfied with the quality and the promptness of delivery.
Works great Thank you 1A auto.
My window stopped working on my 2001 Ford F-150 I usually always work on my vehicles because I dont like paying too much at a shop when I can do the work way cheaper by doing it myself. But in this case I had never done a window regulator and I wasnt sure what I was getting myself into. Shopping at 1a Auto in the past, I knew that they put out a lot of how to do it yourself videos. So I decided to take the plunge and go ahead and do it myself. I ordered the correct window regulator and watched the how to do it video from 1a Auto and was pretty confident that I could do it. The video showed every step by step from beginning to end. The regulator was a perfect match and fit perfectly. The only thing I needed to get were 6 bolts that fit, as this specific kit didnt include them. You can pick some up at the hardware store. The window regulator works perfectly and my window now rolls up and down with ease. I was so impressed how easily it was to install I ended purchasing another regulator
now my windows work will order from 1aauto again
