The Ford Galaxie was Fords full-size entry from 1959-74. Avoiding the large tailfins and other styling cues of the 1950's the Galaxie took on a futuristic look for its design. With the tailfins gone, a relatively flat body resembling a large bar of soap was left. The long sleek frame with dual headlights and large, round disc taillights were distinctive markings of the Ford Galaxie. The early '60's Galaxie's leaned toward performance as powerful new engines became optional. A 390 inі 6.4L engine with a triple carburetor was available outputting about 400 horsepower. The '62 release meant big changes in the lineup. The super luxury Galaxie 500 models were released as was the 406 inі 6.7L touting 405 horsepower. Finally, the most powerful of all Galaxie engines, the 427 inі 7.0 L dual four barrel carburetor was released with a rating of 425 hp. Typical of performance cars in the early 70's emissions regulations killed performance and thus the desirability of the Galaxie. With the early '60's models still considered collectible classics, the Ford Galaxie maintains a loyal following to this day.
