The Ford Fairlane was produced by Ford Motor Co. from 1955-71, as a full-size car during the 50's and a mid-size vehicle during the 60's. The Fairlane name has appeared on several different models over the years, often tied to the Crown Victoria badge. Fairlane Crown Victoria, Fairlane Crown Victoria Coupe, Fairlane Sunliner convertible, as well as traditional Fairlane sedans have all been offered. The Fairlane's came standard with V6 or V8 engines, the most powerful of which were released during the 60's muscle car craze. In '62 the Fairlane was downsized to a mid-size automobile. Taking advantage of the weight reduction, Ford placed powerful new engines into the trim options, XL, GT, and GTA. The 427 in³ engine could be fitted with an optional dual four barrel carburetor, producing 425 brake horsepower. In 1968 the Torino name was added to the Fairlane lineup, denoting the most luxurious of the Fairlane's. In 1971, as the muscle car era came to an end and performance engines were discontinued, the Fairlane was phased out by the Torino line.
