Simple solution to cracked mirror cap
The Good News: The first time I backed out of the garage and caught the side-view mirror, I was delighted to find that the mirrors swivel on the car and don't break off. The Bad News: now that I've done it a few times (hey, life happens!), I saw that the outside cap was cracked -- although the mirror and the aiming motors are fine. The solution from 1A is perfect: a new cap that fits perfectly and doesn't cost anywhere near as much as the entire mirror assembly. The original cap was painted to match the car; the replacement is black, but is easily paintable. Better solution: buy a pair (you'll need the other one eventually) and leave them both black. No one will know that's not the original color styling.
