In this video, we're going to replace the ignition coil on this Durango with a 5.2liter V8. Tools you'll need are 10 mm socket and ratchet, a 10 mm combination wrench, an adjustable wrench and a screwdriver. You want to remove the air box and it's pretty easy. Use an adjustable wrench to loosen up this nut on top of your throttle body. Take that off. Then there's four clips so you could open up your air cleaner. You take this whole assembly up. You put it off to the side. Remove your air cleaner. There's a bolt down in, that's 10 mm. There's also a bolt over here in the back corner that you want to remove, its 10 mm. Then there's a little pin right here that you need to pull out. Okay so we'll remove this bolt. We'll just going to put it down in there to keep it. Then you want to use a screwdriver or something, somebody had already broken it on this vehicle, use a screwdriver and just pry that away. The bolt that's right down on the center of your box here, just remove that. Okay, then your entire box comes up and out. Then you got plenty of room to work right here. Okay, with all that room now, getting the coil is no problem. You can disconnect that wire, 10 mm wrench on one side and then 10 mm socket and ratchet.

Okay, and let me just speed through removing those two bolts that hold the coil on. Then you pull it out. Then there's a little thumb tab right there, you press and pull. Okay, this is the old ignition coil, here's the new one from 1AAuto. You can see it's all the same. Everything is going to plug in the same. It doesn't have a plastic case all around it but that doesn't hurt its functionality at all. You can see it will bolt right in. I am just going to bolt in the original one because it isn't, there's nothing wrong with it. The car is running fine. Okay, let's try to reinstall, put the top bolt in and reconnect the harness, put it through, put this nut on. Okay, let's put the bottom bolt in and reach back in behind here. I think it's easiest just to press the bolt against the metal, put it down where it needs to go. Then turn the bolt into it into the nut finger tight. Just tighten up the top one. You don't have to be overly tight with these, just snug then tighten up the bottom. Now let's reconnect your coil wire and we can put the air box back in. Okay, now we'll fast forward to putting the air box back in. Put it down in. That inside bolt, tighten that down, put the other bolt on the back there. Tighten it up. Put the air filter back in, put that back down, clamp it back on. Make sure you have the nut tight on the top of the throttle body and you're all set.
