This is a brake caliper compressing tool. You can get this from 1AAuto.com. This works great for single piston calipers. You can install it into your brake caliper. Then you put the old brake pad here. As you tighten it, this pushes against the outside of the brake caliper and then the piston. The screw part pushes against the piston and the old pad and pushes the brake caliper piston back into the caliper, so when you go to install the new brake pads they'll fit over your rotors.
This is a nice little tool to have. It makes doing brake jobs a lot easier, much easier than struggling with a C-clamp to get it in there and compress your brake calipers. This is a handy little tool and it's available from 1AAuto.com

Picked up this retraction tool while doing the rear brakes on my daughters Outback. Came in hand retracting the single bore caliper. Well designed, well made.

Should have bought this many years ago great easy to use tool. If you doing brakes this is a must.
This tool is a specialty tool, but hey...it works. I used to use a piece of wood and a C clamp, now I use this tool (just remember to leave one of the brake pads on to use this tool (to push the piston back)

I didnt end up using it. I used a block of wood and a C-clamp like I always did before.
