In this video, we're going to show you how to replace a side mirror on this 2002 Chevy Suburban. We'll show you on the driver's side, but the passenger's side is a similar procedure. It's the same part and similar process on these Suburbans from 2000 to 2006. The items you'll need for this include a new side mirror from 1AAuto.com and a 10mm socket and ratchet.
Start off by prying off this triangular panel, then remove the insulation foam, pry off on this tab, and just pull this harness free. Remove these three 10mm nuts. Now push in these tabs on the center and just pull the mirror out.
On the right is the old side mirror; on the left is the new one from 1A Auto. If the cap on the back of your old mirror is still intact, you can take that off and put it onto your new mirror, or you can take the cap with your new mirror to an auto-parts store in the paint department, get the matching paint, and spray paint it to match. At 1A Auto, we also offer tow mirrors which will mount exactly the same as the regular mirrors with no additional brackets needed.
Then pry off the cap if you're going to replace your cap. You just want to pry from the top a little bit until you can get your hand back underneath it and then just pull out. Now, to put these caps into place on your mirror, you just line up those tabs and push it straight into place. Take your new mirror and feed the harness back through the door and push those studs into place.
Once you get those center tabs lined up, just push the mirror straight in and then replace those three 10 mm nuts. Reconnect your harness, tuck it back into the door, replace that foam, and then replace that triangular panel. Just push the bottom in first, line up the tabs, and push it back into place. Just to show you what the tow mirrors look like, this is from the front, here's from the back.

What's up, guys? I'm Andy from 1A Auto. If you recently replaced your mirror glass and you're getting a distorted or a funhouse look in the glass, I'm going to show you what causes that and how to property install the mirror glass.
So on the back of the mirror glass there's all these clips, right here. And those are going to clip all around this ring here, and then there's also these little spacers right here that go in between here. So if you're installing this mirror glass, all those clips have to be pressed all the way on to this retainer, and if you're installing it you're holding the glass like this. When installing it, you push it on from the outside. You're not going to get all those clips installed.
So, when those clips are not completely installed and the mirror is bowed like that. That's what gives you that funhouse look.
All right, with the new mirror you're going to make sure that this gasket is in there if your mirror comes with one. Make sure none of the old gasket is on this mounting bracket here. We want to line this up right with that to make sure that goes on securely and make sure those clips get lined up in there. Make sure the wires are out of the way if your mirror has wires. You're going to take a rag and push in the center of the glass, and you're going to make sure it clips in. And you can push it pretty hard just be careful.
And your mirror should be installed properly and you should not have that funhouse look or that distorted look. You should be good to go.

I looked at various places for replacement mirrors . 1A auto made it the easiest to find the part ship out. An easy install and my 2002 avalnche is like new.
I bought this to replace a mirror that was smashed by a hit-and-run driver. Although not an exact replacement (my original mirror had auto-dimming and this one does not - and could not find any that do) it matches perfectly and all of the functions (mirror positioning, defrosting/defogging) work well. Also very happy with the installation video provided - the whole job took less than 30 minutes.
Unfortunately, not knowing your exact vehicle I cannot really guide you however, if you do see your vehicle listed in the fit list, then you do have a harness connector. Chevy/GMC vehicles all have a specific length harness on them. Yours would not be any different off the assembly line. The connector may be clipped to the door shell. If you are still having a hard time locating it, please check on some GMC forums or check YouTube for installation videos for guidance.
