Early in the handle removal process a small retainer clip must be removed from the latch mechanism deep inside the door. I would compare this to brain surgery by way of your navel. You will need a dental tool to remove a control rod retainer clip. Watch YouTube videos before you begin but BEWARE of the video that takes the handle mechanism apart to go around the problem! DO NOT TAKE THE HANDLE APART!! The spring in the new handle mechanism makes putting the handle mechanism back together very difficult. Removing and installing the clip inside the door can be done with a lot of patience. Learning how the clip works before you go pulling on the levers inside the door also helps. Also, working with a new door that has no internal hardware installed reduces the pain.
