In this video, we show you how to replace the trunk supports on this 2000 Toyota Celica. It's the same process on the Toyota Celicas from 2000 to 2005. When you're buying the supports, make sure you get the one for your vehicle. There are two types: one for a vehicle with the spoiler, and one for the vehicles without a spoiler. The items you'll need include new trunk supports from 1AAuto.com, 10mm and 13mm sockets, a ratchet, a 12mm wrench, and a flat blade screwdriver.
It's also very important to have something to support the trunk with, whether it's a piece of wood or another person to hold it up. You want to make sure it's secure before you start working on the trunk supports.
As you can see, the trunk supports on this aren't very good. It should open up the rest of the way by itself and it doesn't. You want to remove these two 10mm bolts right here. We'll fast-forward as he removes those. A reminder, you'll want to have something supporting the hatch at this step to make sure it doesn't fall down. Using a 12mm wrench you want to remove the ball that the support attaches to. Then the support pulls free.
On the right is the old part; on the left is the new part from 1A Auto. You can see they're identical, and they'll fit exactly the same. The new one also comes with a new ball joint for it to attach onto.
You want to twist in your new ball joint. Tighten it up with a 13mm socket. We'll fast-forward again here. Again, we have the hatch supported and we're putting the 10mm bolts in and tightening them up. Using a flat blade screwdriver, you want to pry out the clip on the back a little bit, push it onto the new ball joint, and push the clip back down. We're going to fast-forward as we do the other side. You can see with your new supports the trunk just opens itself the rest of the way. Good as new.

Garbage, they stopped working after a few months and it was back to using a broomstick. In their defense, 23 years of ownership with this 2001 Celica and NOBODY makes good hatch struts! Not even Toyota OEM which is 10x more expensive! Regardless had I known they wouldn't last , I wouldn't have bought them. Maybe you'll get lucky, I don't know?And yes I made sure I bought the right hatch struts for Celica's with rear spoiler & wiper?
The service was excellent; delivery of the product was done expeditiously and in a timely manner; I was very much pleased.
They look great but I will need to find someone to loosen the existing upper bolts in order to replace. Bummer because the bottoms came right off & I was hoping to do this myself.
Highly recommend. Used a work around by removing support bracket 10mm screws than with oscillating tool to cut off the metal attachments to the hatchback leaving the original round bolts. The round bolts are the most difficult to remove from the hatchback

I installed these on my 2003 Toyota Celica since I noticed the old support would open only halfway. The fit great and open much better.
Strongest hatchback struts I've ever bought. Celica hatchback practically opens itself. Spend the extra money and avoid the cheap, 15 dollar struts.
